Information about Salobrena and Costa Tropical - LocationWhere is the Costa Tropical? |
The Costa Tropical is a part of southern Spain known as Andalucia. Situated between the well known Costa del Sol and Almeria this length of coastline of just 60 km is south of the historic city of Granada and is also known as Costa Granada. Historically this area has been difficult to access due to the high mountains which surround it and stretch down to the sea. As a result there has been an absence of mass tourism and the area has remained very Spanish. |

Granada is less than 45 minutes’ drive from Salobrena and skiing in the Sierra Nevada is only one hour away by car. Granada also serves as the closest international airport. There are two other international airports within easy driving distance; Malaga's airport is around an hour's drive from Salobrena whilst Almeria takes slightly longer. |

How to get hereThe easiest way is to fly to one of the international airports. The nearest airport is in Granada and is less than an hour from the coast. Several airlines have routes to Granada airport including Ryanair, Air Europa, BA/Iberia and SpanAir. Malaga airport is just over an hour away and there are many flights serving this airport everyday including Easyjet, bmibaby, First Choice, FlyBe, Monarch and BA. A little further away is the airport in Almeria which is about 90 minutes drive. Here you will also find a good and growing selection of airlines and routes. Various airlines also provide routes within Europe including between Granada and Paris and Rome (Iberia & Vueling) and to Eastern Europe and Scandinavia the latter usually requiring a connection. The choice of flights from Malaga to these countries is much better and often direct. Airlines serving these countries include Scandinavian Airlines, SpanAir, Lufthansa and Sterling. It is probably best to hire a car to get around once you are here www.hellehollis.com which has car rental offices at both Malaga and Granada airport, is both efficient and good value - you will find particularly at Malaga that some of the other car rental companies don’t cope well with the queues at peak periods and you may spend the first hour or two of your holiday waiting in a line! At the moment there is a substantial amount of money being invested in the construction of two new motorways which will join less than five kilometers north of Salobrena. The first joins the existing motorway which ends in Almeria and then starts again in Nerja (Costa del Sol) and runs east to west parallel to the coast (a few kilometers inland). The second extends the existing motorway from Granada to Salobrena (north to south). When the new motorways reach Salobrena in the near future these driving times will be reduced and it is likely that more people will find the area and investment in properties for sale in Salobrena will grow.
